iPhone 3GS sells out in the UK
It might be a ploy to drum up more interest with the launch fast becoming a distant memory – or there might well be a genuine shortage of the iPhone 3GS in the UK. That’s not great news for Apple, but it might be good news for Palm, which now looks likely to be selling the Palm Pre on the same O2 shelves in the not-too-distant future. After all, if your contract is up and you can’t get hold of an iPhone and don’t want to go home empty-handed, the temptation to bag a Pre is likely to be pretty strong.
The stock shortages have actually been reported by Carphone Warehouse, which claims that ‘the iPhone 3GS in 16GB has sold out across the UK’, just in case you are planning on a trip for one today. Presumably the 32GB model is still available, but you might want to make a call to your local Carphone Warehouse or O2 shop first. If you do want a 16GB 3GS, don’t worry, it should be back soon, with any pre-orders expected to be delivered on either Friday 3rd July or Monday 6th July. It’s not clear if shelf stock will be available too. Again, a call is probably in order to your local seller.
Trade has certainly been brisk since the launch, despite worries over cost, existing contracts and how much extra the new iPhone offers on the previous model. Despite all of that, one million handsets shifted in the first three days alone. If that kind of trade continued, shortages were inevitable. If you want to get your name down for one of the next batch, the iPhone 3GS 16GB is available free from £44.05 a month on a 24 month contract or £440.40 on pay as you go via the link below. Alternatively, you can opt for one sim-free from Play.com for £799, should you have serious money to burn.
