Amazon touchscreen Kindle set to take on the iPad
Amazon has acquired touchscreen startup Touchco as the company decides that it’s time to join the Sony Reader and the Apple iPad with a touchscreen eReader display.
The New York-based company will join forces with Amazon’s Kindle hardware division to finally liberate the Kindle from its button navigation once and for all, and bring it in line with the iPad and other fellow eReader rivals already fronting the technology.

Touchco claims its unique interpolating force-sensitive resistance tech can be made completely transparent, will work with colour LCDs, and can detect “an unlimited number of simultaneous touch points."
The New York Times who first reported the story, claims that the touchscreen technology will cost considerably less than those used by Apple for its iPad and iPhone screens, which is a small victory against its latest eReader rival.
It is a clearly a step in the right direction for Amazon, who have had to back down on its eBook pricing as the eBook versus iBook battle intensifies.
While we don’t expect touch tech to land immediately on the Kindle, the arrival of the iPad could see it arrive sooner rather than later.
